A major cause for concern
A national security expert is sounding the alarm, urging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to immediately raise the national terror threat level. This comes after a deadly shooting in Texas that investigators are now looking at as a possible act of terrorism, highlighting a truly terrifying vulnerability right here in the U.S.: the escalating danger of sleeper cells operating within our borders.
According to Fox News, former DHS advisor and Secret Service supervisory agent Charles Marino said “we’re facing a wide variety of threats” that are “all located within our own borders right now.” His comments followed U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that led to the deaths of many top officials including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Naturally, this has led to threats of retaliation, and security officials are worried that sleeper cells, which have reportedly infiltrated the U.S., might be ready to strike.
Marino believes that law enforcement and intelligence agencies are already operating at an elevated threat level. He stated this is based on the “correct operating assumption that the United States has been allowed to be infiltrated with a myriad of threats from around the globe, thanks in large part to the policies of the Biden administration, which turned our borders into a sieve.”
Marino is not happy about certain border policies
This situation, Marino explained, has led to communities in the U.S. that have “been allowed to segregate themselves based on culture and ideologies.” He cautioned that this environment creates an ability for people to become radicalized. This radicalization, he noted, sometimes targets individuals with mental health issues or those going through difficult times, and it can even impact American citizens who become open to these extreme ideologies.
This urgent warning comes as federal authorities are actively investigating a deadly bar shooting in Texas as a possible act of terrorism. Reports indicate the suspect was seen carrying a rifle and wearing a hoodie referencing “Allah” before being shot and killed by police.
Even though Marino has confidence in federal law enforcement’s ability to respond, he still issued a strong warning about potential adversaries targeting critical infrastructure and cybersecurity systems. He’s pushing for DHS to formally elevate the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) level. On top of that, he’s urging all Americans to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities.
Former ATF Special Agent in Charge Bernard Zapor also weighed in on the situation, highlighting growing vulnerabilities for the U.S., especially with ongoing funding battles in Congress that could threaten DHS operations. He stressed that “public safety has to be paramount above all,” saying it makes “no practical sense whatsoever” for political issues to interfere with the ability to protect our citizens, even down to a local restaurant or bar.
