Starfield’s inevitable PS5 launched has been speculated on many times now, even incluidng very specific release dates being mentioned by insiders. Now, a source with an extremely strong track-record has seemingly confirmed the date: April 7.
That’s according to billbil-kun of Deal Labs who has an impressive record when it comes to things like leaking PS Plus games. According to his latest article, pre-orders for the game will go live on March 17, around
5 p.m, French time, ahead of the game’s full launch on April 7.
Another source claimed the same thing last month. Polish website ppe.pl reported on the news, but their source, Graczdari, had a mixed record on reporting, so nobody was sure how accurate the details were. However, billbil-kun is now backing up the claim, stating that “…we carried out our own investigation, which allowed us to get our hands on several concrete elements concerning the PS5 version of Starfield.”
Those concrete details include the fact that the game will launch with a proper physical edition.
There will also be two versions: a standard and a premium. What’s really surprising is the pricing of those two editions. The standard will be 49.99€/44.99£/$49.99, while the premium version will come in at 69.99€/59.99£/$69.99.
It seems Microsoft has opted for the lower pricepoint at launch, an approach it very recently with Avowed. Presumably the thinking behind this decision is that Starfield isn’t going to be a “new” game when it comes out on PlayStation, so why sell it a “new” price?
It also might indicate a price-cut is coming for the game, because right now, Starfield costs £60 on Steam and £70 on Xbox. If Starfield launches for the reported £45 on PlayStation, that’s going to be a huge price discrepency that will upset fans. Or perhaps that’s Microsoft trying to push Xbox and PC players towards Game Pass instead?
