Hytale Early Access is out now, and one of the features available right now is the ability to catch various animals.
Of course, due to the game’s early state, the feature is somewhat limited. Nonetheless, you can craft a tool that allows you to catch all small animals. It’s convenient for transporting them and placing them in pens!
Read on and we’ll tell you everything you need to catch ‘em all.
How Capturing Animals Works in Hytale

As of the Early Access launch version, the only way to catch animals in the wild is to use the Capture Crate. This is a recipe that unlocks at the Farmer’s Workbench once you upgrade it to Tier 2.
To craft the Capture Crate itself, you’ll need the following:
- Any Tree Trunk x2 – Obtained by chopping down any type of tree.
- Copper Ingot x1 – Smelt Copper found in caves at the Furnace. Check out our ore locations guide for help finding Copper.
Once you’ve crafted a Capture Crate, you just need to equip it and use it like any other tool in the game. Use it on a small animal, such as a Piglet or Rabbit, and you’ll instantly catch it!
After that, you should see a Capture Crate with an animal inside in your inventory. For example, there’s the Capture Crate (Piglet) shown above. Equip and use this crate again to release the captured animal wherever you wish.
This is very useful for getting smaller animals into fenced areas, such as when you’re setting up a farm! It’s a lot more reliable than trying to lure them in, at least in the current state of the game.
Do note, however, baby animals (such as Piglets) do not currently grow up. That means they’ll remain as babies forever. Similarly, there is also no breeding currently implemented in the game.
Nonetheless, at least now you know how to catch animals in Hytale! This only works for smaller animals, however, at least in the Early Access launch version of the game.
