Biden broke his silence to accuse Trump of planning to steal the midterms, and he did it just hours before the US launched strikes on Iran

Joe Biden has publicly warned that President Trump plans to “steal” the upcoming midterm elections. The rare address came just hours before the US launched strikes on Iran. Speaking in South Carolina, where he was being honored for his lifetime contributions to politics, Biden said the United States is currently experiencing “dark days.”
During his speech at the Columbia Museum of Art, Biden revisited a theme from his 2020 campaign against President Trump, stating that the “battle for the soul of this nation is one that’s never really over.” According to The Guardian, he directly criticized President Trump’s proposals to introduce new voting requirements, which many believe could significantly restrict access to the ballot box before the midterms.
Biden said, “Here’s the good news. In America, the power still belongs to the people for now. And the way to show the power is vote, show up and vote. And folks, when we do that, that’s bad news for Donald Trump, and he knows it.” He added, “That’s why he’s trying to pull out more and more barriers, put them up. He’s trying to steal the election, because he knows he can’t win your vote, so he’s going to do everything he can to prevent you from wanting to vote.”
Biden used his speech to criticize Trump’s State of the Union silence on several key issues
The former president, who is 83, has largely kept a low profile since leaving office and undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He did not discuss his health during Friday’s address. Instead, he focused his criticism on President Trump’s recent State of the Union speech.
Some conservative voices have also been openly critical of Trump, with one conservative influencer sharing honest thoughts on Trump and pointing out what they see as a double standard in how his actions are judged.
Biden pointed out that President Trump failed to mention Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two US citizens who were killed in Minneapolis in January during a federal immigration crackdown. Biden noted, “He doesn’t mention Renee Good, Alex Pretti… [or] offer even a word of solace to their families.”
Biden also highlighted President Trump’s silence regarding the victims of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who reportedly died by suicide while in federal custody in 2019. He expressed disappointment that President Trump didn’t “offer a word of support, even recognition” to those victims during his speech.
This public appearance from Biden comes at a time when President Trump’s approval ratings are reportedly at a historic low. Reports from earlier in February indicated that 61% of Americans disapprove of his performance.
And a more recent poll suggested that most US adults think President Trump is steering the country in the wrong direction. Meanwhile, Trump’s biographer revealing details about the Iran situation room meeting suggests the president’s account of events may differ significantly from what actually took place.
Biden had abandoned his own 2024 re-election campaign after a tough debate performance in June of that year. He then endorsed his vice-president, Kamala Harris, to succeed him. However, President Trump ultimately defeated her to return to the White House, making Biden’s current warnings about the midterms notably pointed.
