A Florida woman is facing serious charges after allegedly confessing to the stabbing death of her 76-year-old veteran roommate, Paul De Wayne Bradley, following what authorities describe as a heated argument in their Punta Gorda home. As reported by Fox News, Shannon R. Giblin, 48, has been charged with second-degree murder and grand theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the incident that occurred on Sunday, March 8.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Giblin allegedly stabbed Bradley to death during the argument. Investigators say she then covered his body with a tarp before stealing his truck and fleeing the scene.

Deputies were alerted to the residence after receiving a call reporting a person not breathing. When they arrived, authorities found Bradley deceased and “beyond help,” according to police.

A respected veteran’s life ended in a sudden act of violence

Investigators quickly located Giblin in nearby Sarasota County while she was still driving Bradley’s truck. She was taken into custody and, during questioning, reportedly confessed to the killing, as a Georgia prank death case was also drawing attention in recent crime coverage.

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell praised detectives for their rapid work on the case. He said the Major Crimes team worked through the night to identify the suspect and bring the investigation to a quick resolution.

The killing has shaken residents in the quiet community, where neighbors described Bradley as a kind and generous person who was known for helping people around him. One neighbor told local reporters the veteran often spent time mentoring young people in the area.

Neighbor Jody Scharping recalled Bradley as someone who had already survived difficult chapters in life, including war service and a recent heart attack. Local reaction has unfolded amid a Virginia coach death mystery that has also remained in the news.

Scharping also shared a personal memory, describing Bradley riding around the neighborhood on his scooter and occasionally stopping by to talk about her son, whom he had been mentoring. She said he reminded her of her own father, describing him as an old veteran who would not hurt anyone.

Giblin’s family released a statement to a local outlet identifying her as a friend, mother, and grandmother while expressing sympathy for Bradley’s loved ones. The statement said they would not attempt to deflect blame or responsibility for the crime and acknowledged that she will face the consequences of her actions.

Giblin is currently being held without bond at the Sarasota County Jail while awaiting extradition back to Charlotte County to face the charges.
