Olive Garden server rips into diners after a bizarre argument erupts over one menu item

Working in the service industry can really test your patience, and one Olive Garden server recently shared a story that perfectly illustrates why. This server, known online as @lexplex on TikTok, absolutely ripped into some diners after a series of bizarre misunderstandings over menu items led to an incredibly unpleasant shift, as reported by BroBible.

She started her video by saying, “People really need to stop coming to Olive Garden if they are just going to have the worst attitudes ever. For real, why are you acting like it’s your first day on earth?” Nobody wants to deal with that kind of negativity, especially when you’re just trying to do your job.

The trouble began right away when a woman arrived alone, even though the table was set for four people. Our server and the diner had a bit of a back-and-forth about the actual party size, which definitely set a sour tone from the start. When the rest of the group finally showed up, it turned out to be two adults and one child. The adults both ordered soup and salad, and a kids’ meal for the little one. Our server mentioned that a kids’ meal doesn’t automatically come with a salad.

The whole saga sounds like a total nightmare for any server

Things really escalated over the salad, though. The diner insisted that @lexplex bring them a big salad “for all three” of them. The server politely explained, “No, ma’am, kids’ meals don’t come with a salad.” At Olive Garden, adult entrées typically include unlimited soup or salad, but those sides aren’t part of the kids’ meal package.

Well, the customer was not having it. Our server recounted the diner’s dismissive response: “She said, ‘Absolutely not. I’m not paying extra for a salad.’” It sounds like the customer just expected to get it for free, despite the clear menu rules. Later on, a slight hiccup with the kitchen caused the group’s soups to be a little delayed. Before our server could even explain the situation, the customer hit her with a sarcastic remark: “It’s called soup and salad for a reason.”

After all that, the group paid through the tabletop device, lingered for a bit, and then left a measly $5 tip. To add insult to injury, a coworker overheard them making a comment as they left. “They were walking out, and they said, ‘Oh, something is wrong with that waitress.’” Our server concluded her story by saying, “So basically, that sums up my shift.”

This kind of interaction isn’t new for service workers. Servers often share their challenging encounters online, giving us a peek into what they deal with daily. We’ve heard stories like the Longhorn Steakhouse server who was taunted about relying on tips, or another who listed “diner icks” like customers not letting her introduce herself. There was even a bartender who said a customer purposely “blew her vape directly in [her] face.”

Viewers who watched @lexplex’s video were totally on her side, with many sharing their own frustrating experiences working in restaurants. One user commented, “Olive Garden servers are so sweet tooo. I’m sorry.” Another server mentioned that new menus and price increases have made their jobs even harder. “I’ve been yelled at so many times this week,” they shared.

It seems like servers are often the frontline for customer complaints about rising costs, which is totally unfair when they’re not the ones setting the prices. As one person put it, “I have to wear a name tag, I am not the enemy.”
